A global call to end public subsidies of fossil fuels
About the project
If you ask any economist or climate scientist, what is the first thing that needs to happen to curb emissions and climate change? They will answer: end public subsidies of the fossil fuel industry.
Why? Because subsidies artificially lower the cost of fossil fuels (oil, natural gas and coal) versus more sustainable fuels like solar and wind. Effectively keeping us hooked on the fuel polluting our world.
Or as a dinosaur would see it:
It’s like we’re subsidizing our own giant meteor.
This insight, taken from conversations with U.N. scientists and economic policymakers spawned a truly global initiative to end fossil fuel subsidies. Debuting during COP26, Don’t Choose Extinction has been translated into 58 different languages and watched 2B+ times worldwide. Touching every continent and UNDP office, to become a truly global platform in its fight against climate change.
